Sumitra Khaws has been detained and tortured by police in southern Nepal to induce a confession from her about the murder of her husband, which she has denied. The use of torture by police in Nepal has been systemic with a number of cases of violence against women being reported to human rights NGOs.

Call on the Nepalese authorities to expressly forbid the use of torture by police officers.
