YOU CAN HELP PROTECT THE COURAGEOUS INDIVIDUALS, LIKE RITA, FACING DANGER AND PERSECUTION.
“I could spend 15 years in prison. . . My young son could grow up without his mother."
- Rita Karasartova
No one should have to fear for their life for daring to confront human rights violations. With a generous donation, you can help protect the brave individuals who boldly choose to speak up and seek justice for all.
Rita Karasartova is one of these brave individuals. A proud mother of three, a human rights defender and an expert in civic governance, Rita leads the non-governmental Institute for Public Analysis in Kyrgyzstan.
Rita is also a member of the United Democratic Movement of Kyrgyzstan. Formed in March 2022, the movement aims to “restore democratic institutions and values, create a fair legal system, develop an anti-crisis economic program, and fight against poverty.”
Rita’s work is vital in Kyrgyzstan, where human rights have rapidly declined since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The government of President Sadyr Japarov is using harsh laws to restrict human rights in Rita Karasartova faces isolation, imprisonment and a lifetime of uncertainty because she chose to protest.
