URGENT: Yulia's trial is near its end. The final hearing in her case is expected to take place on 12 July. Time is running out. Now, more than ever, we need to pressure the authorities to drop the charges, so Yulia doesn't spend years in prison.
Recent decisions by the courts concerning Yulia and her drawings have worrying implications for her trial. Now, more than ever.
Right now Russian activist and artist Yulia Tsvetkova is on trial under Russia’s ‘gay propaganda laws’.
She faces six years in prison – simply because she posted art on social media.
Russian authorities have charged Yulia with ‘producing pornography' after she posted body-positive drawings of women on social media, and a drawing showing support for LGBTQI+ families.
When police raided Yulia’s house they called her a ‘lesbian, sex trainer and propagandist leader.’
She’s also been fined 50,000 rubles for being the administrator of an LGBTQIA+ Facebook page, and 75,000 rubles for a drawing depicting two same-sex couples with children.
Her trial began on 12 April, and worryingly, the trial is closed to the public and the press.
Yulia has done nothing wrong. We cannot allow her to be sent to prison for her being an artist, feminist, and LGBTQIA+ rights activist.
Take action today and call on the Russian authorities to drop the absurd charges against Yulia.
