Call on Australian governments to protect LGBTQA+ people from conversion practices

We are survivors of conversion practices. LGBTQA+ Australians like us are at risk of these harmful practices, which tell them they're 'sick' and 'broken.'

The conversion practices movement make pseudoscientific claims which tell LGBTQA+ people they can change their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Research and the testimonies of survivors have revealed that 10% of LGBTQA+ Australians are at risk of conversion practices, and that such practices are prevalent across Australia. But successive Australian state and territory governments have failed to legislate to adequately address and ban these practices.

Together, we can pressure Australian governments to work with survivors groups, such as SOGICE Survivors and Brave Network, to draft effective legislation to combat conversion practices.

Did you know that...

Amnesty is 100% independent. We will never accept funding from governments or political organisations. This means we're free to campaign with objectivity and impartiality.

This comes with huge risks: offices have been closed, raided or spied on in several countries in the last years. Some of our staff have been jailed for doing their work.

But we forge ahead. We keep challenging the systems that enable injustice and abuses.

Research, advocacy and campaigning require a lot of resources

To keep going, we need your support. The most powerful way for you to contribute is by making a regular donation that will power our movement and allow us to win more battles.

Regular giving is convenient for you and effective for us as it allows our team to plan ahead, achieve long-term change and react quickly when a crisis arises.

Be the change. Our better future begins today.

All donations of $2 and over are tax-deductible in Australia.
