The brutal crackdown on pro-democracy supporters in Sudan is just the tip of the iceberg
For years, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF - also known as Janjaweed) have committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, a western area of Sudan. Their brutal actions were brought to international attention just last week when they slaughtered hundreds of unarmed protesters. This was a watershed moment that exposed their complete disregard for human rights.
But there's more. We have gathered evidence that they are also responsible for a "scorched earth" campaign in Darfur. They have attacked and burned down at least 45 villages in recent months, forcing people to flee for their lives.
And now the UN peacekeepers could abandon civilians by withdrawing entirely from the area. This is the only kind of protection civilians have.
The UN will be voting about this matter on 27 June so we need to apply all the pressure we can on decision-makers. Please make an urgent donation today to help us maintain peacekeepers in Sudan.
