HELP US STAND AGAINST INJUSTICE IN 2023.

Your unwavering support has saved and changed lives. Thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with Amnesty as we challenge injustice.

Your continued support is crucial to the ongoing work of our teams around the world. We hope that you’ll stand with us again in 2023, to defend human rights for all people. Your gift in 2023 will:

  • Fight for Indigenous Justice: We’ll continue to lobby the Australian government to raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility to at least 14 and hold them accountable to their commitment to fund justice reinvestment and First Nations-led community programs.
  • Protect people seeking asylum: We’ll call for changes to Australia’s humanitarian program, to allow more people fleeing war and conflict to seek safety.
  • Challenge injustice around the world: Through research and campaigning, we’ll shine a spotlight on international human rights abuses, to improve worsening human rights situations in Afghanistan, Iran, Myanmar and China.
  • Defend everyone’s human rights: We’ll stand with the LGBTQIA+ community to put an end to harmful conversion practices, and call for improved safe abortion access for all people in Australia.

THANK YOU FOR STANDING AGAINST INJUSTICE IN 2022.

Here are just a few of the amazing things your support has already helped achieve:

YOU STOOD WITH PEOPLE SEEKING ASYLUM.

In March 2022, the Australian Government finally accepted New Zealand’s long-standing offer to resettle refugees trapped in Australia’s offshore detention regime.

The Australian government provided 5000 places for Ukrainian nationals seeking safety, and announced there would be 16,500 additional places for refugees from Afghanistan over the next four years.

YOU PROTECTED PEOPLE EXPERIENCING DISCRIMINATION.

Working together in coalition with LGBTQIA+ organisations, our lobbying of the NSW government resulted in confirmation that One Nation MP Mark Latham’s Parental Rights Bill will not get support.

This ethically dangerous Bill would have forbidden students from confidentially coming out as trans to their teachers, banned them from playing sports aligning with their gender at school and required them to undergo a full medical transition before using toilets aligned to their gender.

YOU FOUGHT ALONGSIDE HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS.

In March 2022, the High Court of South Sudan freed Magai Matiop. Magai was a 15-year-old secondary school student when he was sentenced to death in November 2017 after being convicted of murder, which he claims was an accident.

When Amnesty heard about Magai’s story, we campaigned for his release through our Write for Rights campaign. We received over 750,000 letters, emails and petition signatures from brave people just like you.

THANK YOU! WE HOPE WE CAN COUNT ON YOU IN 2023!
